The plot summary of Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi
The film begins with Aditya Verma (Shahid Kapoor) narrating his life story to Yama (Sanjay Dutt), the god of death. He tells him how he lives in a large mansion in Mumbai with his brother Sunil (Mohnish Bahl), who has a drinking problem, sister-in-law Sunita (Ekta Sohini), sister Anjali (Radhika Apte), grandmother (Suhasini Mulay), and several nieces and nephews. He is the only one working in the family as a manager in a bank. He falls in love with Priya (Amrita Rao), a tuition teacher who teaches his nephews and nieces. They confess their feelings to each other and plan to get married.
However, on his way to work one day, he sees a child named Shakti (Parth Dave) about to be run over by a truck. He saves him but gets hit by the truck himself and dies. He wakes up in the afterlife and meets Yama (Sanjay Dutt), who tells him that he has only 15 minutes left before he will be reincarnated as a dog. He begs Yama to give him more time to sort out his family's problems and to marry Priya. Yama agrees to let him go back to Earth as a ghost for seven days, on the condition that he will not reveal his identity to anyone and that he will not harm anyone. He also tells him that he will be accompanied by Fakira (Arshad Warsi), a conman who died in a police encounter and who owes Yama some favors.
Aditya returns to Earth as a ghost and finds out that his family is in trouble. His evil uncle (Prem Chopra) has forged his will and is planning to sell his mansion to an industrialist (Sharat Saxena) who wants to demolish it and build a factory. His brother Sunil is depressed and suicidal, his sister Anjali is being harassed by her abusive husband (Shahbaaz Khan), and his grandmother is ill. He also sees that Priya is heartbroken and has decided to leave the city. He decides to help his family and stop his uncle from selling his mansion. He also tries to communicate with Priya through various means, such as writing on the mirror, playing songs on the radio, and sending her messages through Shakti, who can see him.
With the help of Fakira, Aditya manages to expose his uncle's fraud and save his mansion from being sold. He also helps his brother Sunil to overcome his alcoholism and find a job, his sister Anjali to divorce her husband and pursue her dreams, and his grandmother to recover from her illness. He also confesses his love to Priya and asks her to wait for him until he is reincarnated. He then returns to Yama, who is impressed by his deeds and grants him a wish. Aditya wishes to be reborn as Priya's son, so that he can be with her forever. Yama agrees and sends him back to Earth as a baby.
